Get-EngageGroupInfo

Report every Viva Engage community's IDs, member count, and admins to CSV by using Microsoft Graph.

View on GitHub

What it is

A PowerShell sample that lists every Viva Engage community through Microsoft Graph and exports a CSV with the community ID, Microsoft 365 group ID, name, member count, and admins (the group owners) for each. It uses app-only authentication and retries when Graph throttles requests.

Why use it

  • Inventory all communities and their admins in one report.
  • Find the Microsoft 365 group and community IDs that the other Engage admin scripts need as input.
  • Spot communities with no admins.

How to use it

  1. Create a Microsoft Entra app registration with the Microsoft Graph Community.Read.All (or Community.ReadWrite.All) and GroupMember.Read.All (or Group.Read.All / Group.ReadWrite.All) application permissions and grant admin consent.
  2. Set $ClientId, $TenantId, $ClientSecret, and optionally $ReportOutput near the top of the script.
  3. Run:
.\Get-EngageGroupInfo.ps1

Prerequisites

  • Microsoft Entra app registration with Community.Read.All and GroupMember.Read.All application permissions (or the ReadWrite/Group equivalents) and admin consent
  • Existing output folder for the CSV (default C:\Temp)
