Episode One: Two Data Scientists Walk into a Bar

Date Aired: January 20, 2021

In this exciting episode, Buck and Anna introduce the show, and explain the deep and dark meaning behind the show’s intriguing title. You’ll learn the maths behind Data Science and Machine Learning, why you might want to learn more about them, and then Anna explains a dead-simple way to tell if she wants more coffee.

Probably.

Episode Two: Reduce, Re-use, Recycle

Date Aired: February 24th, 2021

Our hero Buck goes on a trip (virtually though, since there’s a thing) to the data jungle to detangle the tangled. He also notices that your data is a bit…chunky, and shows you how to go low-calorie with your algorithms. Anna shows up to save the day with something really deep. Deep Learning, that is.

Episode Three: You Have to Draw the Line Somewhere

Date Aired: March 24th, 2021

Join Buck and Anna as they regress. I mean, explain Regression. Anyway, you’ll learn one of the most widely used tools in Statistics and Data Science, and how the math works for its predictions. There’s spreadheets, code, Notebooks and more in this thrill-packed episode, you won’t want to miss it!

Episode Four: Do Kangaroos Prefer Cake Or Frosting, Generally Speaking?

Date Aired: April 28th, 2021

There are two categories of people: People who put people into two categories, and people who don’t. In this exciting episode of “Something Old, Something New” Buck and Anna will show you how to categorize and classify things using math and Machine Learning. As always, be ready to learn and have fun!

(Oh, and we’ll explain that title. Promise.)

Episode Five: That's Really Deep

Date Aired: June 2nd, 2021

Buck has often been accused of not thinking about things deeply enough (especially by his wife) so in this Episode Anna will help him take the math and apply it to a branch of Machine Learning called “Deep Learning”. Don’t worry, we’ll take it slow, and give you lots of examples along the way. You’ll learn about the different types of Deep Learning, the math, and the packages and libraries that make it simple to work with.

Also, like any good Hallmark movie, there’s a dog.

Episode Six: Not really Artificial, not really Intelligence

Date Aired: June 23rd, 2021

In this episode, Buck and Anna tackle the difficult topic of Ethics in AI. Artificial Intelligence is becoming more powerful, and more prevalent in our lives – but how is it making the choices it does? What are the biases that it has, and how do they get in the code? We’ll explain the issue clearly, and give you specific steps and guidelines you can follow to create ethical AI systems.
