Data Integration

The Data Integration app is an early-stage module designed to provide agencies with a standardized framework for synchronizing and managing data flows between multiple systems. Built on Microsoft Power Platform, this app serves as the operational interface for the Data Integration data model, offering administrators and data stewards the tools needed to configure, monitor, and govern cross-system data synchronization activities.

The current baseline consists of a model-driven app with organized navigation groups and starter forms for key entities including Integration Identifiers, Integration Value Maps, Integration Commit Policies, Integration Sync Jobs, Integration Sync Items, and Integration Ledgers. The app is structured around two primary functional areas: Setup (for configuration of identifiers, value maps, and commit policies) and Processing (for managing sync jobs, sync items, and ledgers). Together, these components provide the foundation for establishing data integration governance and tracking synchronization events across connected systems.

As an early-stage module, the Data Integration app currently provides a shell model-driven application that exposes the tables and fields defined in the underlying data model. While the current functionality is limited to basic forms and views, the app establishes the essential user interface framework for what will become a comprehensive data integration management solution.

Looking ahead, the app is envisioned to enable administrators to:

  • Configure integration mappings – Set up crosswalks between external system identifiers and internal Dataverse records, ensuring consistent data routing without duplication
  • Define governance policies – Establish rules that control how data flows into the system, specifying which updates require certification and which external systems serve as authoritative sources
  • Normalize data vocabularies – Create value maps that translate codes and terminology from external systems into the organization’s canonical data standards
  • Monitor synchronization activities – Track inbound transactions through sync jobs and review individual field- or record-level updates captured as sync items
  • Maintain audit trails – Access comprehensive provenance records in the integration ledger, showing the source, status, and certification history for each data element
  • Manage data stewardship workflows – Review pending entries, certify trusted values, and coordinate updates back to source systems as needed

The app could also extend to provide analytics dashboards showing synchronization patterns, data quality metrics, and governance compliance across integrated systems.

Because the Data Integration app is in its early development stage, agencies should view it as a foundational starting point that can be customized and extended to meet specific integration requirements. The underlying data model provides a robust framework for building comprehensive data synchronization capabilities that ensure consistent, trustworthy, and traceable data flows across any Dataverse-based government solution.
