Overview

Standard SOC runbooks do not account for AI-specific threats. When a prompt injection attack targets a production agent, or a Copilot session triggers a data exfiltration alert, the containment actions differ from traditional incidents — revoking an agent's managed identity credentials, quarantining an Azure OpenAI endpoint, or pulling the full prompt-response history for forensic review. Without playbooks designed for these scenarios, analysts fall back to manual, ad-hoc steps that vary from incident to incident, increasing dwell time and reducing response consistency.

Sentinel playbooks provide the mechanism to codify these AI-specific response actions into repeatable, automated workflows. The important thing is not the playbook engine itself — which is well documented — but ensuring the organization builds playbooks that address the unique containment and enrichment needs of AI workloads before those workloads go live. This is a readiness activity, not a reactive one.

This supports Assume breach by ensuring pre-built response workflows exist for AI threat scenarios, reducing mean time to respond when a compromise occurs. It supports Verify explicitly by enabling playbooks to enrich AI incidents with identity and data classification context before an analyst makes a triage decision. Without these playbooks, AI incident response defaults to generic processes that lack the context needed for AI-specific attack patterns, and the organization discovers the gap only during an active incident.
