Project Tracking Module Now Available
π Tuesday, April 7, 2026
Weβre excited to announce the Project Tracking module β a comprehensive framework for managing work intake, planning, execution, and control across initiatives of any size.
What is the Project Tracking Module?
The Project Tracking module provides structured lifecycle management for projects from initial proposal through delivery and closeout. It enables organizations to capture and evaluate project requests, formally approve and manage projects, define standardized project roles and resource assignments, organize work using backlogs and iterations, execute work through categorized work items, establish timeline milestones, and govern changes through formal change request processes.
Key capabilities include:
- Project Request Intake β Capture proposed work with business need, justification, high-level scope, and evaluation prior to formal project approval with priority and review tracking
- Project Management β Formally manage approved projects with scope, objectives, schedule, ownership, budget tracking, and overall status monitoring
- Hierarchical Project Structure β Support parent-child project relationships for programs, portfolios, and complex initiatives
- Project Role Definition β Define standardized roles such as Project Manager, Business Lead, Technical Lead, Developer, Tester, or Subject Matter Expert for consistent staffing
- Resource Assignment β Assign persons to projects with role specification, allocation percentage, assignment duration, and planned effort tracking
- Backlog Management β Group and prioritize future work items using planning containers categorized by product backlog, sprint backlog, release backlog, or feature backlog
- Iteration Planning β Organize work into defined timeboxes or execution cycles such as sprints, phases, or increments with iteration goals and completion tracking
- Work Item Type Configuration β Define categories of work items such as Epic, Feature, User Story, Task, Defect, or Change Request to control classification and workflow
- Work Item Execution β Track core units of work with status, priority, assignment, effort estimation, hierarchical decomposition, and backlog/iteration linkage
- Milestone Tracking β Establish timeline checkpoints for significant events, deliverables, approvals, or completion markers with planned and actual date tracking
- Change Request Management β Formally propose and govern modifications to approved project scope, schedule, cost, or deliverables with impact analysis and approval workflows
- Strategic Alignment β Link projects and requests to organization initiatives and legal authorities to establish strategic context and regulatory basis
- Risk Integration β Connect work items to identified risk items when work involves risk mitigation or management
Whatβs Included
This initial release (v1.1.0.0) provides the foundational data model:
- 10 entities providing comprehensive project intake, planning, execution, resource management, milestone tracking, and change control capabilities
- Integration with Core module for persons, organization units, organization initiatives, accounts, action items, risk items, agreements, legal authorities, and documents
Forms and views for project request evaluation, project planning, backlog management, iteration tracking, work item execution, and change request processing will be available in an upcoming release. The module provides implementors with a baseline data structure that can be customized for IT implementations, infrastructure projects, policy initiatives, process improvements, product development, construction efforts, research programs, and organizational change initiatives.
Getting Started
The Project Tracking module is available in the FAST Modules Repository under the MIT license. It requires the Core module as a foundation.
