We’re excited to announce the Training and Certification module β€” a comprehensive framework for managing learning delivery, academic programs, credentialing, and qualification requirements.

What is the Training and Certification Module?

The Training and Certification module provides end-to-end support for training and credentialing across higher education, workforce development, and regulated industries. It enables organizations to define course catalogs with prerequisites and learning objectives, organize curricula through learning paths and academic programs, deliver training through scheduled sessions with instructor and attendance tracking, record completions with results and scores, award and manage certificates with renewal tracking, and enforce qualification requirements for roles, access, or operational activities.

Key capabilities include:

  • Course Catalog Management – Define training courses with descriptions, objectives, credit values, and prerequisite requirements
  • Learning Path Organization – Create curated sequences of courses with defined ordering and requirement status to guide learners toward specific skill sets
  • Academic Term Scheduling – Organize training sessions into defined academic periods for structured scheduling
  • Session Delivery – Schedule training sessions (classes) for courses within academic terms with instructor assignment and capacity management
  • Instructor Management – Authorize and track individuals delivering training sessions with qualification and assignment tracking
  • Enrollment Processing – Register learners in specific training sessions with enrollment status and approval workflows
  • Attendance Tracking – Record attendance status for training sessions with per-meeting occurrence support
  • Completion Recording – Document training completions with results, scores, completion dates, and instructor validation
  • Training Objectives – Define specific learning outcomes and competency mappings for courses
  • Certificate Definition – Establish credentials with issuing authority, validity periods, renewal rules, and compliance framework linkage
  • Certificate Requirements – Configure criteria to earn certificates including course completions, learning path completions, competencies, or credentials
  • Certificate Awarding – Issue certificate achievements to individuals with expiration tracking and status management
  • Certificate Renewal – Process renewal events with updated expiration dates for ongoing credential lifecycle management
  • Academic Program Structure – Define formal degree, diploma, or certificate programs with structured curricula and credit requirements
  • Program Completion – Track individual progress toward program completion with final standing and honors recognition
  • Qualification Requirements – Create reusable eligibility rule sets for roles, access privileges, programs, or activities
  • Requirement Enforcement – Specify individual items within qualification requirements including courses, certificates, competencies, credentials, clearance levels, or learning paths

What’s Included

This initial release (v1.1.0.0) provides the foundational data model:

  • 21 entities providing comprehensive training delivery, academic program management, certificate lifecycle, and qualification enforcement capabilities
  • Integration with Core module for persons, organization units, competencies, credentials, clearance levels, compliance frameworks, legal authorities, and documents

Forms and views for course catalog administration, session scheduling, enrollment processing, attendance tracking, completion recording, certificate management, program administration, and qualification verification will be available in an upcoming release. The module provides implementors with a baseline data structure that can be customized for university course and degree management, corporate learning and development, professional certification programs, compliance-driven training environments, apprenticeship models, and readiness enforcement across enterprise operations.

Getting Started

The Training and Certification module is available in the FAST Modules Repository under the MIT license. It requires the Core module as a foundation.
